John,
Today is Rashida’s birthday, and we’re celebrating her dedication to public service and human rights.
Rashida’s not afraid to fight for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular among fellow legislators. From taking on the fossil fuel industry to boycotting recent speeches from India’s Prime Minister and Israel’s President, Rashida doesn't back down in doing what is right.
This passion for justice was instilled in Rashida from a young age by her grandmother, who friends called “Shamah” or candle. And, when they meet Rashida, they say, “oh boy, you have Shamah in you.”
Here is Rashida as a child with her grandmother:
Rashida is holding human rights abusers and corporate polluters accountable, fighting for our rights—including the right to drink clean water and breathe clean air—and making sure that all families can live safely and thrive.
Growing up in Southwest Detroit, Rashida thought it was normal that it smelled like rotten eggs from corporate pollution nearby, that her friends had asthma, that she couldn’t play outside on some days because it was too polluted.
Rashida now knows that poverty and pollution are policy choices, and she’s introduced bold policies to make the urgent changes that our communities deserve. With an unhinged far-right taking away our rights, we need Rashida’s outspoken leadership in Congress more than ever.
Please chip in $5 or more for Rashida’s birthday, so she can stay in Congress fighting for the bold changes we need and deserve.

A true public servant, Rashida is rooted in and dedicated to her community.
She’s leading in Congress on providing transformative constituent services for her district’s residents, and has started training her fellow Members of Congress about how to set up effective constituent services in their districts.
Her groundbreaking legislation often starts with local working groups of people on the ground who personally understand how urgent it is to change the unjust status quo.
Many of our neighbors are rationing their medication, struggling to pay bills to stay in their homes, and going to bed hungry. In the wealthiest country in the history of the world, this is shameful.
So Rashida’s leading the fight in Congress to end childhood poverty and medical debt, to replace all lead pipes in the U.S. and protect public health over corporate profits, and to ensure human rights around the world—including in Palestine.
Can you chip in today to celebrate Rashida’s birthday, so she can keep fighting for our rights in Congress?
Thank you,
Team Rashida
