It’s an honor to serve on the House Judiciary Committee alongside many hardworking public servants in our Democratic Caucus.
In the 116th and 117th Congresses, we passed serious, consequential legislation through the Committee. In the 118th Congress? Not so much. In a minute, I’m going to ask you to consider a contribution to help us flip the House next year and get back to this serious work – but first, some background.
You see, friend, in this current Congress, my Democratic colleagues and I on the Judiciary Committee have become the last line of defense as Chairman Jim Jordan lurches the Committee toward an agenda of obstruction, disinformation, and far-right, partisan investigations.
In fact, as Chairman, Jim Jordan used his power to create and fund a partisan Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government – demanding over $18 million in funding with no accountability.
The Judiciary Committee plays a unique role in defending the Constitution and protecting the rights and freedoms of all Americans. It should never be used as a political tool for obstruction and partisan grandstanding.
Nevertheless, this is what we see on a daily basis from Jim Jordan and far-right GOP members – and it underscores just how much is on the line in 2024. It is critical that my Democratic Judiciary colleagues and I have the resources we’ll need to retake the majority next year, make Jim Jordan a one-term Chairman, and get back to the serious work of the Judiciary Committee.
