Did you know that in the UK alone, we throw away two disposable vapes every second? 

 

This mounting waste isn't just an eyesore in our communities—it's polluting our land and water, and wasting precious resources like lithium. [1]

 

That's why we're calling on the UK government to put an end to the sale of disposable vapes. John, will you sign our petition and urge the UK government to ban single-use vapes?

It feels like almost overnight vapes started showing up everywhere. Everytime I leave my house, I see these candy-coloured, plastic things littering our parks, streets and beaches.

 

But here’s the good news: the pressure to ban disposable vapes is mounting. Over 40 countries have already banned vapes in some way. Here in the UK, local councils have called for a ban, and Scotland is making progress on the issue. [2] 

 

Momentum is building, but we need your help to push for change. Will you take the first step and sign a petition to tell the UK government to ban disposable vapes?

In a world where just about everyone agrees we should be using less single-use plastic, disposable vapes have somehow managed to pop up everywhere, pretty much unrestricted.

 

The design of these supposed "disposable" devices makes them almost impossible to recycle. [3] Meaning they often end up littering our environment, posing risks to wildlife. [4]

 

Single-use vapes also use lithium batteries which contain precious materials that could be put to better use in things like solar panels and electric car batteries. If crushed or punctured, these batteries can end up causing dangerous fires. [5] 

 

We need to break free from these harmful and wasteful single-use products! Can you add your name?

The government has banned the likes of single use plastic plates, straws and cutlery but has left this gaping hole. Their failure to take action on disposable vapes exposes yet again their insufficient and piecemeal approach to tackling the plastics crisis.

 

If enough of us sign, we can make this a popular issue, get the attention of the government and force them to act. 

 

Together we can make sure single-use plastic products like this no longer litter and poison our precious planet.

• The number of discarded vapes accounts for around 10 tonnes of lithium being sent to landfill or waste incinerators each year - enough metal to make batteries for 1,200 electric cars.
• As of 2017, there were 565 types of e-cigarette devices on the market, 184 of which were disposable or single-use.
• Disposable vapes contain a lithium ion battery which poses a significant fire risk to both waste facilities, bin lorries, and homes.
