JOhn, traffic and transportation are major concerns across Northern Virginia.

We’re a fast-growing region, and it’s essential that we find ways to accommodate the many residents who need to commute by vehicle — while at the same time balancing environmental responsibility and the need for equal access to public transit.

So I was thrilled to be able to announce recently that Loudoun County (which falls entirely in the 10th District) is getting nearly $14 million to upgrade its buses to be low- or no-emission.

I’m proud that Northern Virginia can help demonstrate effective ways to modernize public transit that is safer and cleaner. And I’ve never been more optimistic that the historic infrastructure bill I helped pass in 2021 (through which these funds to Loudoun County came) can continue to revitalize our communities for the better.

I sit on the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, and I’ve made it my priority to continually advocate for more affordable, accessible, and environmentally-conscious transportation. I know that more areas of my district will soon see the benefits of our recent infrastructure investments.

I reject the notion that we have to choose between making transit fast and efficient and ensuring that our communities have safe and breathable air. What we’re seeing in Loudoun County shows that progress on both fronts is achievable when we make the right policy choices.
