Dear John,

This week, we applauded the Ontario government for investing in the security of the Jewish community and called on the federal government to protect us from online hate.

Read on to learn more.

The CIJA Team

Upon return from thesecond Summit of the Interparliamentary Task Force to Combat Online Antisemitism at the European Parliament in Brussels, which brought together parliamentarians, major online platforms, special envoys on combating antisemitism, and experts from civil societyfrom around the world,CIJA Vice President Richard Marceau reflected on the urgent need for the Canadian government to introduce legislation to combat online hate.

Community security amid rising antisemitism is a top priority for CIJA, and our advocacy is having an impact.

In response to our input, the Government of Ontario is investing $25.5 million over two years into a redesigned Ontario Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant with expanded eligibility for organizations and an enhanced list of admissible expenses to improve support for safety and security measures that protect our community – and others – at risk.

The grant will provide up to $10,000 to help eligible faith-based, cultural, LGBTQ2 +, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and Urban Indigenous organizations and communities to protect and secure their facilities from hate-motivated incidents, graffiti, vandalism, or other damage.

For the first time, grant funding can be used to hire short-term professional security personnel, which CIJA has long advocated be eligible for coverage.

Are you alarmed by the rate at which antisemitism is growing?  So are we.

CIJA and Canada's Jewish Federations are doing something about it.

This October, hundreds of Jewish Canadians of all ages and community allies  – including elected officials and ethnic and faith partners – will gather in Ottawa to learn from experts, including renowned author and scholar Dr. Gil Troy, human rights attorney Arsen Ostrovsky, and digital activists Hen Mazzig and Emily Schrader, about how we can take action, collectively and as individuals, against antisemitism.

Will you be there?
