Reddit Takes One Step Forward, One Step Back

Reddit, a three-peat Dirty Dozen List target, has released a mixed bag of policy changes.

Reddit has expanded their child safety policy to prohibit comments, pictures, cartoon images (anime, etc.), and poses that sexualize minors, as well as predatory or inappropriate behaviors such as "sexual role-play where an adult might assume the role of a minor.” These are positive changes that correspond to many concerns NCOSE raised!

Unfortunately, so far these policies appear to be poorly enforced, as NCOSE researchers are still able to easily find indicators of child sexualization and/or child sexual abuse material on Reddit.

Further, in a disappointing move, Reddit clarified that its policies on "non-consensual intimate images" (the less apt term for "image-based sexual abuse") do NOT extend to AI-generated sexually explicit content if the content does not depict an identifiable individual. This permissiveness overlooks the fact that AI-generated pornography is often built on non-consensually created, shared, or scraped sexually explicit content
regardless of whether the individual in the generated image is identifiable.

Advocates Demand: Make This the Child Protection Congress!

Last Congress, child protection and anti-trafficking advocates rallied to support legislation addressing the horrendous increase of child sexual abuse online. NOT ONE significant bill confronting this criminal activity passed, despite broad bipartisan support from advocates and subject matter experts across the nation

While Congress sits on these bills, reports of online child sexual exploitation increase each year!

NCOSE and hundreds of advocates, survivor leaders, and subject matter experts are calling on the 118th Congress to make this the Child Protection Congress by prioritizing and passing key, bipartisan legislation to address child sexual abuse material and online child sexual exploitation.

Why Sex Buyers Must be Stopped and How to Do it

Is ending sexual exploitation possible?

Yes, but only by addressing the root cause: the sex buyer.

Without those who choose to buy other people for sex, there would be no prostitution and no sex trafficking. Yet sex buyers are often left unchecked and as a result inflict incalculable harm on individuals and society.
