Dear Friend,

Advocacy is one of our most powerful tools for fighting for the needs and rights of those impacted by Alzheimer's and other dementia. There are more than 6 million Americans living with this devastating disease, and they need our support. Today, I urge you to make your voice heard on their behalf.

Right now, advocates are urging Congress to build upon our past decade of progress and update and expand the work of the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA). This landmark legislation paved the way for our nation to address Alzheimer's disease.

NAPA has helped secure vital, unprecedented federal research funding increases. Since NAPA, we have built crucial public health infrastructure and improved access to quality care, which includes support under both Medicare and the Older Americans Act.

Now, two critical pieces of legislation seek to continue this effort — the NAPA Reauthorization Act and the Alzheimer's Accountability and Investment Act (AAIA).

Act Now

The NAPA Reauthorization Act would extend NAPA. AAIA builds on the original Alzheimer's Accountability Act, which was first enacted in 2014. It ensures Congress continues to hear directly from scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on what resources are needed to prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's and dementia research funding at NIH has increased more than seven-fold over the last decade. Annual federal funding for Alzheimer's research now stands at over $3.7 billion — compared to $448 million when NAPA was passed. But we know there is more work to be done.

With NAPA and the original Alzheimer's Accountability Act set to expire in 2025, updated legislation is urgently needed. The Alzheimer's Association and the Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM), a separately incorporated advocacy affiliate, have been working with dedicated advocates to build bipartisan support for these critical bills and remain deeply committed to swiftly passing them into law.

Thank you for your commitment to the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia. We need your help to ensure our nation continues to address Alzheimer's and dementia as a priority — at this critically important time.

We need caring members of our community like you to raise your voice and urge Congress to support these two critical pieces of legislation. We've made it easy and quick for you, too, by providing sample language for you to use.

Act now

Thank you for your support as we further our mission to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

When we act together, we will make a difference.

Sincerely,

Robert Egge
