The reports coming from Texas this week about the inhumane treatment of migrants at the border are horrifying and unacceptable. Governor Greg Abbott should be ashamed and must be held accountable. These barbaric tactics are not who we are as Texans or Americans. 

All people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, especially children and those most vulnerable. There are ways to secure our borders and enforce our laws without resorting to violence and cruelty, and we owe it to ourselves – and the folks coming to America searching for a better life – to find them. I'm committed to working toward solutions that uphold our values and do not sacrifice our humanity, but I can't say the same about Greg Abbott or Ted Cruz.

Martin Luther King Jr. famously said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Right now, there is grave injustice being committed at the U.S. border in Texas, and John, I can't help but feel that our silence is akin to complicity.

That is why I am personally and urgently asking you to join me and speak out right now. Please, will you add your name to condemn the inhumane treatment of migrants at the border in Texas and demand Gov. Greg Abbott take action to correct it? >>
