“It’s not always sunny or windy here, but we definitely always have manure,” says Karl Crave, of the Crave Brothers Dairy in Waterloo, Wisconsin. “We like to call it cow power.”

I bet you know about solar and wind power, but have you heard of cow power? The Crave family’s 2,000 dairy cows help generate enough electricity to power the entire farm, cheese factory and 300 local homes. This power comes from two massive anaerobic digesters that capture planet-warming methane from manure.

As EDF’s Senior Agriculture Policy Director, this innovation is an example of a science-based solution that my team advances to support farmers and make food production more sustainable.

You can join EDF in fighting climate change by donating to our $2-for-$1 Summer Match campaign. Donate today and triple your impact to help increase food production, make rural communities more resilient, slash methane pollution and more.

Your support fuels my work on the climate-smart agriculture team to empower farmers and business leaders to play a key role in building a healthy economy, thriving communities and a vital Earth. This includes:

# Working with farmers like the Crave Brothers Dairy to reduce methane pollution, make food production more sustainable, adapt working lands to climate change, strengthen soil health, and conserve water and land.
# Securing climate commitments from companies like Danone, one of the world’s largest dairy companies that has pledged a 30% reduction of agricultural methane pollution from its fresh milk supply by 2030.
# Advocating for more funding in the 2023 farm bill for climate and conservation programs, like installing anaerobic digesters to capture methane from manure, planting cover crops to protect soil, reducing fertilizer use and preserving unplowed farmland.

To solve the world's methane problem, we must reduce pollution from agriculture, and your support makes a big difference as we tackle this issue head on. Seize this opportunity and donate today to triple your impact as we fight climate change:
