Our legislation, which passed the House with broad bipartisan support in June, authorizes several projects that will help expand health care services to veterans across the country, including for Portland VA Medical Center to build a new specialty care facility and make other upgrades to improve accessibility and safety for Oregon veterans. I’ll continue working in a bipartisan manner to ensure those who have served our country receive the care they deserve. Skyrocketing costs have left affordable child care out of reach for too many families – but parents shouldn’t have to worry about breaking the bank to find quality care for their children. It has a far-reaching effect on families, local businesses, and our economy, which is why investing in child care is also an investment in the future growth and success of our communities. This bipartisan bill improves three existing child care tax incentives to improve affordability. Learn more about our proposed changes in this article from KTVZ: | PASSED: CRITICAL LEGISLATION TO IMPROVE OREGON’S REGIONAL AIRPORTS On Thursday, the House passed a major bipartisan package to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) through fiscal year 2028. My top priorities for this bill included strengthening safety, upgrading technology by promoting innovation, and improving passengers’ flying experience. By investing in needed infrastructure improvements and streamlining testing for new technology, this extensive reauthorization bills checks all of these boxes. Oregonians rely on our airports for a variety of critical economic activity, from transporting products and packages to connecting to various destinations throughout the country. I’ll continue working with Democrats and Republicans to keep our infrastructure safe and reliable for Oregon travelers. More details on the specific proposals I helped lead, including a push to get to the bottom of flight cancellations and delays, are available below: | PORTLAND SERIAL KILLER: URGING GOVERNOR KOTEK TO REVIEW ALL COMMUTATIONS IMMEDIATELY I joined Congressman Cliff Bentz in urging Governor Tina Kotek to review every conditional commutation granted by her predecessor, Governor Kate Brown. We sent this request after investigators linked four suspicious deaths from earlier this year to one person of interest, and reports indicate that this individual was released from prison early after being granted conditional clemency by Brown. “Understandably, this situation has left many Oregonians deeply concerned about the hundreds of clemencies granted by Governor Brown. As we work to decrease crime and restore safety for Oregonians, we urge you to review every single conditional commutation granted by Governor Brown to ensure no one is a victim of the former governor’s reckless leniency,” we wrote in part. I was honored to attend his speech along with my special guest, Jeremy Rozansky, who grew up in Lake Oswego. I will always stand firmly with the people of Israel, and I was proud to support a resolution on the House floor earlier this week denouncing antisemitism and expressing strong support for our democratic ally 🇺🇸🇮🇱 | ONE MORE THING! I kicked off my week meeting with Oregon Boy Scouts on the House steps – they stopped in D.C. on their way to National Jamboree. I appreciate their civic engagement and encouraged them to stay involved in their communities! | Thank you for reading my weekly newsletter.
