Dear John, ​

A month ago, we had our first annual Celebrate Life event. To commemorate the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, the pro-life movement focused on our path forward.

Through education, advocacy, and serving communities throughout Oregon, pro-life advocates took steps to create a culture of life.

The work advocates like you are doing in their communities is laying the groundwork for a pro-life Oregon, but we have a long way to go. Abortion is still legal for any reason, at any time during pregnancy.

One thing that means is that an abortion can be performed because an unborn child is diagnosed with a disability.

Some might justify that by saying “it’s not a life worth living.” But the pro-life movement rejects that reasoning.

Every human being is equally valuable and has an equal right to life and protection. For Celebrate Life, one advocate affirmed that truth by supporting a food bank program for people with disabilities.

She recognized that it’s our calling, as a community and a movement, to help the most vulnerable in our society. So she celebrated life by loving her neighbors with disabilities.

But our job doesn’t stop at the end of a pro-life week of action. Let’s keep doing what we can to protect the unborn and create a culture of life in Oregon.
