While our campaign continues to pick up steam by the day, I’ve also been hard at work in the State Senate. Just this week, my legislation to grant free access to evidence for domestic violence survivors was signed into law.
For too long, survivors of domestic violence were charged exorbitant costs to obtain the evidence needed to seek legal protection and trauma care. Given the financial obstacles many survivors already face, these additional costs were a barrier that directly harmed their safety.
Under this new law, survivors will finally be able to easily seek and receive the protection and care that will keep them safe.
I’m proud to stand with survivors, today and every day. Add your name here to join me in celebrating this lifesaving measure:
As a State Senator, I have always made it a priority to advocate for the rights of our most vulnerable.
Upholding unnecessary barriers to survivors’ safety is simply outrageous. Experiencing abuse is horrible enough, without the thousands of dollars in associated costs over a lifetime, from costs of court, to health problems, lost productivity, and more. We must do anything in our power to support survivors and facilitate justice and access to care.
This law is a huge step forward, but I pledge to continue fighting for domestic violence survivors in any way possible. Add your name to say you’re with me.
Thanks for taking a stand.
