Working to Ease Delays and Reduce Burdens for Air Travel
Friend,
If you have been on a flight lately, you probably know the headache. Delays and long lines seem to be the norm these days. This week, I helped pass legislation to improve airline passenger experience, strengthen aviation workforce recruitment and retention, and modernize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure the United States has the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world. Importantly, the bill also included a provision to help make flying safer right here in our community.
The Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act includes important provisions to help with some of our headaches. Included in the final bill was my amendment to help local airports obtain the equipment they need to conduct safe operations. Many of our local air traffic controllers at smaller airports rely exclusively on their eyes and ears to direct airport traffic. Specifically, my amendment would direct the FAA to lower one of its cited requirements for it to install radar display equipment at an airport’s air traffic control tower. Assisting smaller airports, like the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville, to obtain a radar display will allow them to grow without compromising safety.
The bill also includes provisions that will:
- Invest in American airport infrastructure.
- Support the general aviation community.
- Promote aviation technological innovation and integration in our communities.
I remain focused on supporting our local communities, reducing the burden families face during travel and promoting efficiency in the federal government.
Honoring a Health Care Hero
Each year, I’ve made it a priority to honor and support health care workers in Wisconsin. Southeast Wisconsin is home to more than 17,000 health care workers who have continued to provide our community with the utmost care and compassion. To honor their heroic contributions, our office is excited to announce the 2023 First Congressional District Health Care Worker of the Year Award nominations are now open!
Our community is incredibly thankful for each of our health care professionals working on the front lines. I look forward to recognizing this year’s heroes.
If you know a Health Care worker in our community that should be nominated for this award, please follow this link to fill out a form on my website. Our office will be collecting nominations through August 1, 2023.
The recipient of the Health Care Hero Award will be selected based on the following criteria:
- SERVICE: Displays exemplary service and performance in their profession
- DEDICATION: Goes above and beyond the call of duty in performing their responsibilities
- SELFLESSNESS: Displays self-sacrifice and selflessness in caring for others
The nominee must reside in Wisconsin's First Congressional District and be a licensed health care professional.
It has been an honor to meet with so many of our Wisconsin health care workers, and I look forward to reading each of the nominations we receive. If you have any questions about the Health Care Hero nomination process, please contact our office at (608) 752-4050.
On Wisconsin,
Bryan Steil Member of Congress
