Rise Up, O Men of God: The Church Needs Strong Males
By: Paul Batura
The origin of the baseball walk-up song, music chosen to accompany a player’s approach to the batter’s box, is said to date back over a half-century to Chicago.
Nancy Faust, the White Sox’s legendary organist, began playing topically themed tunes to welcome players or respond to events inside legendary Comiskey Park. I was explaining this tradition to our boys the other day, and one of them mistakenly thought I was referring to “wake-up songs” instead. I went with it, and jokingly said to Will, “If I were choosing one for you and your brothers, I know just the one: ‘Rise Up, O Men of God.’”
We had a good laugh, but there’s truth in the jest.
Written by William Merrill in 1911, this great hymn of the faith is rarely sung anymore, and if it is, the words are often changed in a desire to be more inclusive. Instead of “Men of God” it might be sung as “Child of God” or even “Church of God.” There may be nothing intrinsically wrong with broadening the appeal, but at a time when a large percentage of men are increasingly apathetic, uninvolved, or altogether absent, a good case can be made for targeted ministry to men.

House Passes Defense Bill Containing Critical Pro-Life and Pro-Family Protections
By: Zachary Mettler
The U.S. House of Representatives passed its annual defense bill in a close vote last Friday. Contained within the bill are numerous pro-life, pro-family measures that conservatives can celebrate. The House passed the defense bill (H.R.2670), also called the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 (NDAA), in a close vote of 219-210 on July 14.
The bill provides fiscal appropriations for FY24, authorizing $886.3 billion for national defense, an increase of $28 billion from FY23. H.R. 2670 also contains numerous pro-family measures, including:
The Jackson-Roy Amendment which prohibits the Pentagon from using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion travel costs for servicemembers and their dependents.
A provision prohibiting the Department of Defense from promoting critical theory at military service academies, and in servicemember training.
A stipulation eliminating the Chief Diversity Officer of the Department of Defense.
A provision protecting servicemembers rights to direct their children’s education.
A prohibition on funds being used for drag shows and drag queen story hours.
The NDAA now goes to the Senate, which is expected to face its first procedural vote on Tuesday evening. The bill requires 60 votes to overcome the filibuster.

Montana Library Commission Votes to Leave American Library Association Due to Marxist President
By: Jeff Johnston
The Montana State Library Commission voted to separate from the American Library Association (ALA) due to the Marxist ideology of its president, Emily Drabinski.
It’s the first state to disaffiliate from the radical organization.
As previously reported in the Daily Citizen, Drabinski issued a tweet — since deleted — celebrating her election, stating:
“I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible to build and can be wielded for a better world is the president-elect of @ALALibrary. I am so excited for what we will do together. Solidarity!”
The Montana Family Foundation (MFF), a Focus on the Family ally, issued a statement supporting the move. MFF Chief Legal Counsel Derek Oestreicher offered testimony in support of the Commission’s motion, stating:
“While the office of the President of the ALA may have been historically ‘ceremonial,’ it is clear that the political ideology and vision of Ms. Drabinski is being carried out by the organization as a whole.
“Ms. Drabinski’s vision for the ALA is entirely inconsistent with Montana values, and the Montana Family Foundation is glad that the Commission is moving to withdraw from this organization.”
MFF cited Drabinski’s declaration of her goals for the ALA.

NBC’s Explainer on ‘Nonbinary’ Proves It’s a False Concept
By: Daily Citizen Staff
NBC News wrote a recent explainer on what it means to be “nonbinary.” It is important that everyone who cares about the family, what it means to be human, and biological reality itself have a very clear understanding of the falsehood that “nonbinary” is.
NBC did not provide that explanation. At least, not overtly. But it did admit its deception indirectly.
Let us be clear right from the start. Nonbinary is a nonsense term. No one is nonbinary.
The fundamental fact of humanity is that to be human is to be either male or female. There is no third option.
The concept exists solely in the sadly troubled, but creative imagination of the person making the claim.
NBC’s article admits this fact.
They begin by explaining that being so-called nonbinary is a subset of being transgender which “means someone’s gender identity, or the personal sense of their gender, differs from the sex they were assigned at birth, which is based on their external sex characteristics” (emphasis added).
Note a critical phrase here: Personal sense.
They are speaking of a ghostly essence, an internal, subjective feeling that means very different things to different people.
You know this is true if you have met more than two people claiming to be transgender.

Disney @ 100: The Four C’s Needed to Turn Things Around
By: Paul Batura
It was on this day — July 19, 1923 — that Walter Elias Disney, with just forty dollars in his pocket and a heart full of dreams, boarded the California Limited train in Kansas City and began making his way to Los Angeles’ La Grande Station and Hollywood.
At the time, Walt had suffered a string of failures, including the bankruptcy that year of “Laugh-O-Gram Studio” — a company he created that produced animated fairy tales.
Years earlier, he had been previously laid off by an art studio.
Through all the ups and downs, Walt Disney remained philosophical and even optimistic.
“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me,” he reflected. “You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”
Disney’s current leadership would be wise to heed its founder’s counsel and perspective.
Saturday’s Wall Street Journal reported:
“The company is in the midst of painful layoffs and budget cuts. Crowds at Disney’s Florida theme parks thinned during summer holidays. Its Pixar animation studio continued a yearslong box-office slump.”
Business analysts cite pressure with streaming income, as well as the extraordinary costs for content production last year ($32 billion), among other issues plaguing the company.
