[link removed] [[link removed]] The Supreme Court’s recent slew of terrible decisions have made waves across the nation. They’ve said it was okay to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans, rolled back student loan forgiveness and more.
These rulings are a reminder of just how conservative the Supreme Court has become and a couple of judges' recent actions have raised serious ethical questions.
ProPublica first reported that Judge Clarence Thomas has for years accepted trips from GOP mega donor and developer Harlan Crow, including on his private jet and superyacht, without disclosing them on financial disclosures as federal law requires.
And ProPublica also reported that Justice Samuel Alito failed to disclose that he had enjoyed an all-expenses-paid, high-end fishing trip to Alaska, complete with private jet travel, courtesy of hedge fund titan Paul Singer, a major Republican donor, who has been involved in 10 appeals to the Supreme Court.
These secret gifts could all too easily have a bearing on his decisions in the court, leading to major corruption in the highest court in the land, which is why we want to know:
Should Justices on the Supreme Court be held to the same ethical requirements as members of Congress?
