Friend, Being pro-life is about valuing life at all stages – protecting unborn children, expanding maternal care access, and helping new parents support their growing families. Earlier this month, Governor Reynolds signed fetal heartbeat legislation and is fighting to save as many lives as possible in Iowa. While the Governor and the Iowa state legislature are working to defend life at the state level, I am working to further a culture of life by passing pro-life policies in Congress. On Monday, I will be holding a live telephone town hall with special guest, Marilyn Musgrave from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, to give an update on my latest work to defend the unborn, expand maternal health care access, and support new families. Please join the conversation using the dial-in number below! Telephone Town Hall Meeting on Championing Pro-Life Issues With Special Guest, Marilyn Musgrave from SBA Pro-Life America Monday, July 24th, 2023 6:00 PM CT Call in: 833-364-1469 Read on for more on my work for Iowans this week! Best, NEW: Federal Bureaucrats are Out of Office A report released by the nonpartisan US Government Accountability Office found that 17 of the 24 federal agency headquarters are using just 25% of their building capacity. 25%! According to the GAO, it costs $2 billion a year to operate and maintain federal office buildings regardless of the buildings’ utilization and the agencies spend $5 billion annually to lease these buildings. Taxpayers are keeping the lights on but nobody is home. This is the epitome of government waste that Iowans sent me to DC to fight against. In February, the House passed the SHOW UP Act – Stopping Home Office Work’s Unproductive Problems Act – with my support. This legislation would require federal agencies to return to pre-pandemic telework levels. If federal agencies don't require their employees to show up, they should give up their taxpayer-funded space. You deserve better, and I’ll be staying on top of this! ICYMI: NDAA Our military is the greatest fighting force in the world, and the men and women who serve our country in uniform represent the best of our nation. Our adversaries, like Communist China, are rapidly developing their defenses and military capabilities while our military has gotten bogged down in woke politics that have hurt our readiness and recruitment. I was proud to back this year's NDAA to eliminate wokeness in our military (including cutting taxpayer funded drag shows on military bases) and invest in the cutting-edge technologies and capabilities necessary to ensure we exhibit peace through strength. Additionally, this legislation includes a well-deserved pay raise for our troops and support for our military families. I will continue advocating for a strong national defense that keeps America safe. Watch more HERE. WATCH: Importance of Stillbirth Prevention At least 25% of stillbirths – the unexpected loss of a baby after 20 weeks of pregnancy – are preventable. With increased education and research, we can end the tragedy of stillbirth. Watch my interview here for more about my bipartisan bill to ensure moms have healthy pregnancies and save babies! Camp Congress: Max in DC It was week two of "Camp Congress" – I had Max out in DC with me! In between our work for Iowans and our lessons in American history, we got to ride the train in the Capitol basement back to the office!
