John,
Can you imagine agreeing to purchase property and having the President of the United States void the sale because you are an Iranian national?
Unfortunately, that is exactly what the Senate will be voting on this Tuesday, when they will debate new restrictions on the purchase of agricultural land in an amendment offered by Senator Mike Rounds . This dangerous legislation proposed for the National Defense Authorization Act would require the President to prohibit Iranian nationals here on visas - along with Chinese, Russians and North Koreans - from purchasing agricultural property or private real estate used in agriculture.
If implemented, this new alien land law would be applied at the federal level across all fifty states - as has been proposed by far-right and radical governors in recent months. Will you take action, John, and tell your Senator to vote against the amendment? [[link removed]]
Take Action NoW! [[link removed]]
This would not just impose government-sanctioned restrictions on land purchases with the U.S. based on nationality, it risks encouraging racial and ethnic profiling against communities like ours and opens the door to further restrictions based on nationality or ethnic heritage. This would be a slippery slope to more discrimination - whether by future administrations, or implemented on an individual level by those seeking to enforce the law against individuals deemed of suspect national heritage.
The American dream belongs to everyone, regardless of their heritage, including Iranian immigrants. Tell your Senator to uphold that right for members of our community.
Tell your senator to vote no [[link removed]]In solidarity,
