Thank you for following along on my journey in Congress. Here is a mid-summer recap of what I have been doing in Washington D.C. and TX-13!

Independence Day Celebration

I spent the 4th of July with proud Texans from Amarillo and Wichita Falls. I am so honored to represent the great people of Texas' 13th Congressional District! We live in the greatest state and the greatest country in the world! I started off the day by attending Canyon’s 4th of July Independence Day Parade. Canyon hosts an incredible parade each year, and it was truly outstanding to be there with thousands of other patriotic Americans.

In the evening, I drove down to Wichita Falls for the Falls Freedom Fest. Thousands were in attendance, and everybody had a fun time enjoying food trucks, a car show, a Gary Nunn concert, and an incredible firework show. Some pictures of the day are below:

Will Rogers Range Riders Rodeo

Over the 4th of July weekend, I also attended the historic Will Rogers Range Riders Rodeo for the 4th consecutive year. Formed in the late 1930s, it was the first riding club organized in Amarillo and currently has over 150 members. The group hosts their largest event over the 4th of July weekend called the Rodeo and Reunion. I was thrilled to be able to attend and celebrate the great American tradition of rodeo with some of the best patriots in Texas. I know it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to keep this sport alive, and the event was truly a success. Thank you for welcoming me!

Armed Forces Golf Ops

I want to extend a huge thank you to the Roan Creek Marine Corps League for organizing the 16th annual Armed Forces Golf Ops. Engaging with the hard-working individuals I proudly fight for in Congress was an honor, and having the opportunity to interact with numerous Marines was incredible. Thank you to all the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Palo Duro Creek Golf Course for hosting this remarkable fundraiser providing funds for various veterans programs and scholarships.

Devastating Extreme Weather Events in TX-13

Earlier this summer, the Texas Panhandle experienced a series of disasters that deeply affected our residents. Flooding and severe weather wreaked havoc in various areas including Armstrong, Carson, Moore, Oldham, Potter, Randall, Ochiltree, Lipscomb, Roberts, Briscoe, Deaf Smith, and Motley County. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Perryton, Afton, and Matador communities who are in dire need of support. I kindly request that you join Jane and me in continued prayer for their well-being.

Three weeks ago, I revisited Perryton to see the progress that's been made since I last visited the town the day after the EF3 tornado tore through the town on June 15. It was amazing to see a lot of improvements being made thanks to the hard work of the community and surrounding areas. However, there is still a lot of progress to be made. Perryton was absolutely pummeled by the deadly tornado, and it will take a lot of resources, funding, and hard work to help rebuild this community.

The solidarity shown by the TX-13 community during these disasters is truly heartening. Witnessing the unwavering unity that has emerged from these communities fills me with pride and continues to motivate me to do my best to represent you in Congress. A huge thank you to all those who have already contributed and continue to assist in these relief efforts across the Panhandle.

House Armed Services Committee: FY 2024 NDAA Update

Last week, the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with countless provisions included in the bill that will ensure substantial benefits for Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, and the thriving defense-focused workforce within Texas' 13 Congressional District.

I successfully led the single most influential amendment in this year's NDAA which prevents taxpayer funded abortion in the military. The current Biden administration policy is not only constitutional, but it is immoral and has no place in our military. My historic amendment to end this illegal policy was agreed to and passed as part of this year's defense bill! You can see my remarks on the floor below.

Agriculture Committee Updates

Texas is leading the way in science-driven research that will innovate America's food assistance programs. Dr. Stover at the Texas A&M Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture is currently working on crucial data to create more realistic and usable dietary guidelines.

SNAP benefits are intended to help our most vulnerable. Sadly, these benefits are being exploited by criminal organizations to commit fraud and steal millions. There must be readjustments in the application process. Those in need of actual help are being robbed. That simply can’t happen!

SubSubcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic: Rochelle Walensky

Rochelle Walensky put lives at risk by fear-mongering the American people into masking up, forcing unlawful vaccine mandates, and unnecessarily closing schools. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Walensky constantly promoted misinformation and misconceptions to disrupt and control every aspect of Americans’ lives. To this day, she continues to lie about vaccines and their effectiveness... What else is she covering up?

National Champions: West Texas A&M Volleyball

It was an honor to have the 2022 NCAA Division II Volleyball Champions visit me at our Nation’s Capital last month. The Lady Buffs’ dedication and sportsmanship this past season is a great source of pride for TX-13 and a direct result of the work ethic instilled in students at West Texas A&M. Go Buffs!

Mobile Office Hours Have Been Held in Every County Within TX-13

This past month, my staff had the privilege of hosting office hours in six different counties across the district. During my time in Congress, my staff has hosted over 179 mobile office hours and will continue to host mobile office hours throughout this year. My team is looking forward to meeting with you to assist with any federal issues you may have. If you were unable to attend out last mobile office hours, you can always contact one of my offices and my staff will be happy to assist you.

National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association

Congratulations to the Clarendon College men's rodeo team for winning their 2nd National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Title held in Casper, Wyoming! Freshman Weston Timberman led the team by securing his own national championship title in bareback riding as well nabbing the men’s Rookie of the Year honors.

Great job also to Quade Hiatt of Canyon, and a West Texas A&M University team member, who was the Men’s All-Around Champion!
