SIGN OUR LIVE PETITION HERE!

Dear John,

This week, we hit the streets of Trowell, Nottinghamshire, and surrounding areas, to distribute leaflets informing the public of the truth behind the new zoo plans proposed for the area.

You may remember previous news regarding the concerning plans to develop the local site - located on precious greenbelt land - and build a new zoo that will include 27 guest cabins, a restaurant and spa.

There has been a lot of press centred around the applicants' points of views, so this leaflet drop was carried out to ensure that local residents are aware of the true nature of the plans, and how they will affect the local area.

We could not carry out these actions without your support, so thank you so much!

The main applicant, Reece Oliver, already has a backyard zoo at his residence in Strelley; which currently holds 4 lions, lemurs, spider monkeys, otters, a capybara and tapir captive.

Although he often claims in the press that he rescues animals, and is marketing the new zoo as a "sanctuary" - this is far from the case. Through promotional material it has been stated that 100% of the animals will initially be sourced via the European Association of Zoo and Aquariums (EAZA) breeding programmes - although EAZA have stated that they have no association with him. You can read more about the controversial plans HERE

Our live petition is calling for Broxtowe Council to reject application 22/00892/FUL to build a new zoo in Trowell. You can help by showing your support for the campaign and signing today!

Reece Oliver often states in the press that the size of the project will rival Britain's largest zoos. Yet regardless of this, no zoo can provide the appropriate space or environment for animals to live a natural life, which is why so many sadly develop problems arising from malnutrition, stress, illness and stereotypical behaviours. In 2023, it is unacceptable to allow the development of yet another zoo to hold animals captive. We must stop these plans from happening!

TAKE ACTION FOR ANIMALS TODAY!
Alongside this incredibly important issue, we have a number of live online actions that also need your support:

- The new live petition calling for the closure of the notorious South Lakes Zoo. Sign here!

- The 'No More Zoo Secrets' campaign; which calls on DEFRA to ensure that all zoos and aquariums tell the truth about what happens to the animals in their care. Take action here!

- Our 'Virgin Experience Days' action; which demands that Virgin immediately and permanently stop the sale of animal encounters, ‘zookeeper’, and animal handling experiences. Take action here!

And many more! Head to our 'Take Action' page for more information.

Please see our Supporter Engagement Guidance for information on how best to communicate when taking part in an online action.

Thank you for your support with this important campaign, and for all you do for animals in need. As always, we appreciate your vital help in the fight for animal freedom, and I will keep you updated as the campaign progresses!
