Standing up for the Proper Use of Taxpayer Dollars in the Appropriations Committee:
This week in the House Appropriations Committee, we voted to advance the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Bill, which maintains housing assistance for vulnerable Americans while reducing wasteful Washington spending.
Notably, this Bill:
- Provides full renewal for all currently leased housing for the elderly and persons with disabilities contracts.
- Provides full funding for homeless assistance grant programs.
- Reduces wasteful government spending by $8.35 billion, across 19 programs in this department.
- Rescinds more than $25 billion in IRS funding allocated in the Inflation Reduction Act.
We also advanced the Fiscal Year 2024 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Bill which:
- Reins in wasteful Washington spending and bureaucracy.
- Right sizes agency funding levels.
- Expands access to critical minerals.
During our vote to advance these bills, we defeated several Democrat led attempts to use taxpayer dollars to fund housing for organizations that support sex changes in children. We also defeated Democrat led efforts to fund housing for organizations that promote communist indoctrination in our Country.
As a physician and the son of immigrants who fled the Communist Party rule, I will always oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to promote sex changes in children or to fund any type of communist indoctrination.
Holding The Biden Family Accountable:
This week, IRS whistleblower, Gary Shapely, testified before the House Oversight Committee that during investigations into potential Biden family crimes, DOJ prosecutors "instructed investigators not to ask about the "Big Guy" during investigations." What is clear from this testimony is that the Biden DOJ has one set of rules for anyone with a name ending in "Biden" and another set of rules for everyone else.
The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, as well as the Judiciary Committee, will continue their investigations into the Biden family to determine whether President Biden is compromised, and our national security is threatened.

Standing Up for Israel:
This week a top progressive Democrat declared Israel to be a racist state. In addition to being absolutely false, this claim is also inflammatory rhetoric that is unacceptable.
I joined Congressmen Doug Lamborn and Warren Davidson in a Jerusalem Post Op-Ed reassuring Israel that Washington stands with them.

Fighting to Make SNAP a Nutritious Program.
Obesity is one of the leading health challenges in the U.S., and as the month of September rapidly approaches, Congressional leaders will again be faced with a one-in-five-year chance to negotiate funding levels for SNAP, America's largest food relief program.
As it stands, Congress is careening toward this deadline without a clear plan to solve a decades-long problem: the billion-dollar federal government subsidization of sugar sweetened beverages and junk food in the SNAP program.
This week, I joined Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) in a Newsweek op-ed outlining what Congress should do to make SNAP a nutritious food program.
