2023 marks 100 years since the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first introduced in 1923 – and 3 years since Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA, crossing the threshold needed for the amendment to become law.
Equal Rights Amendment
“Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”
Despite the nationwide support for the ERA, it still has not been enshrined in our Constitution – largely due to opposition from Republicans in Congress, who continue to block efforts to finally add the ERA to the Constitution.
But now, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Cori Bush are paving a new path forward for the ERA – and we need everyone who believes in achieving gender equity and ending discrimination to join their fight!
