Hello neighbor,

I hope that your summer is going well and that you and your family are staying safe and healthy. The legislature adjourned for summer break three weeks ago now, and it has been great spending more time in Downriver and Western Wayne with my neighbors and constituents. There are so many parades, fairs and summer events that bring our communities together, and I hope that you are taking advantage of all the fun and exciting things to do across District 4. I have a couple legislative updates to share with you as we get closer to August:

Last Tuesday, Governor Whitmer signed my legislation to establish a permanent grade separation fund into law. Blocked train crossings are such a significant and widespread problem across Downriver and Western Wayne, and I was thrilled that this legislation received bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. This bill will help our first responders, ease traffic congestion and stimulate the economy in areas where grade separation projects are constructed. I’m thankful for all of the Downriver residents and local leaders who voiced their support for this effort and made this legislation possible.

I’m also excited to share that I was recently appointed to Governor Whitmer’s Growing Michigan Together Council. As a member of this council, I will be working with 27 other members to find ways to grow Michigan’s population and set a population goal for 2050. Part of this includes continuing our work to improve our public education and ensuring that Michiganders have financial aid resources for higher education. As one of the youngest members of the council, I find it imperative that we continue to find ways to keep young adults in our state and encourage them to raise their families in the communities that we call home. I look forward to working with my colleagues on addressing these issues and will certainly share updates on the Growing Michigan Together Council in future E-Newsletters.

My team and I have been knocking doors and chatting with our neighbors over these past few weeks, and I appreciate sharing updates on what we’ve been working on in Lansing and hearing from my constituents about what they’d like to see from their state legislators when we return to the Capitol in the fall.
