Dear 350Brooklyn friends and allies,
This summer, as deadly temperatures have reached new heights around the world, broad awareness of the urgent need to end the use of fossil fuels has spiked as well. It’s time to hold the oil and gas corporations and their government allies responsible for the climate crisis accountable, and demand bold action for a livable future.
On September 17th in NYC, there will be a March to End Fossil Fuels, led by the national organization People vs. Fossil Fuels, and a city-wide coalition. The march will occur the day before the United Nations will gather world leaders for a first-of-its-kind Climate Ambition Summit to demand that nations stop developing new oil, gas, and coal projects and begin phasing out fossil fuels once and for all. With his recent approvals for mega-polluting projects like the Willow Oil Drilling Project and the Mountain Valley Pipeline, President Biden must immediately reverse course to earn his seat at the table. The march calls on Biden to:
-
Declare a climate emergency and reinstate the crude oil export ban, accelerate the shift off fossil fuels, boost just and resilient renewables, and advance justice;
-
Reject federal permits for new fossil fuel projects and revoke illegally granted permits;
-
Phase out fossil fuel production on federal public lands and waters;
-
Limit gas and fossil fuel exports to the full extent allowed by law.
350Brooklyn has committed to helping build a mass turnout on 9/17. We are calling for all hands on deck: we need you to join in, bring friends and family, and help spread the word. *The organizers recognize this mobilization is planned for the second day of Rosh Hashanah. There were a number of factors that led us to choose this date, and we did not make this decision lightly. We deeply respect that Jewish communities have different relationships with protest and social action during the High Holidays. We honor and affirm that many Jewish communities and organizations will be praying at this time and celebrating their observance.
