Downtown traffic signals go live on July 27
Main street traffic signals unfinished
The Village of Oswego?s contractor is in the final stretch of completing major safety improvements in the downtown area. Over the past several months two new traffic signals have been constructed in the downtown area on US Route 34/Washington Street at the intersections of Main and Harrison streets.
To improve traffic flow in the area, all downtown and railroad crossing signals have been synchronized. Pedestrian safety has also been enhanced with new buttons and accessibility features including verbal commands.?
The final equipment is being installed this week through July 27 and the lights will be functional by the end of the day on July 27.?There may be traffic delays due to this work and as drivers acclimate to the new signals. Please use extra caution in this area whether you are driving, biking or walking.

New business in former Dominick's property
VASA Fitness facade
A new full-service health club will soon fill the long-vacant former Dominick?s property along Route 34. VASA Fitness received approval of an amendment to the planned unit development at the Village Board?s July 18 meeting, allowing them to do a complete remodel of the interior and exterior of the building.
Located at 3010 Route 34 in the Oswego Commons shopping center, the 65,636 square foot property was vacated nearly 10 years ago, but the property was tied up due to a leasing agreement. VASA is expected to obtain permits and begin $4 million in interior and exterior renovations in the coming months.?

The Village's mosquito control contractor Clarke has been spraying the community as needed to help prevent the West Nile virus.?
Follow these tips from the Kendall County Health Department [ [link removed] ] to reduce mosquitos in your yard and neighborhood:
?Discard old tires, tin cans, buckets, bottles and other water-holding containers.
?Keep gutters, drains and ditches clean so that water will drain properly.
?Repair leaky pipes and outdoor faucets.
?Cover trash containers to keep out rainwater.
