Help me pass the federal CROWN Act to end hair discrimination across the country.
John,
When I served in the Pennsylvania State House, I introduced legislation with current Speaker Joanna McClinton to end hair discrimination after a young Black high school student in my district was told to change her hair or go home.
Under GOP leadership, our bill went without a vote for four years. But with the historic work we did locally to flip the Pennsylvania State Legislature, I’m so proud to share that my former colleagues in the PA House never gave up and successfully passed the CROWN Act with undeniable bipartisan support earlier this month!
If passed by the State Senate and signed by Governor Shapiro, this bill will finally outlaw discrimination based on hair texture, type, or style and make respect for beautiful Black hair the law of the land in Pennsylvania.
Now, we need to bring the same fight to Congress in order to end hair discrimination across the country, no matter what state you live in. No one should be denied an interview, fired from their job, penalized in school, or discriminated against in any other way because of their natural hair — period.
That’s why I’m working to reintroduce a federal version of the CROWN Act. We clearly can’t depend on GOP state legislatures to do the right thing. Will you chip in $5 to help build support for the CROWN Act in Congress and end hair discrimination for Black folks across the country?

Thank you for helping make this progress possible in our commonwealth. First, Pennsylvania — next stop, Congress.
In solidarity,
