PLANNED PARENTHOOD
Have you heard the news?

Last week, the FDA approved the first birth control pill for over-the-counter use. The pill, called Opill, will be available to people of all ages at their local pharmacy — no prescription needed. Getting birth control as easily as picking up contact solution, toothpaste, and other everyday essentials? You know we're down!

Opill, which will likely become available in early 2024, is a progestin-only birth control pill, and it's the first to be available without a prescription.

The FDA's historic approval will remove many barriers people often face when accessing prescription birth control methods, like the costs and availability of a doctor's appointment, transportation, and insurance coverage. This is a huge step forward for birth control access and will help give people greater control over their health and lives.

Take a look at what we're already hearing from Planned Parenthood supporters about what over-the-counter birth control means to them — then let us know why access to birth control is important to you!

Over-the-counter birth control will help so many [women] live their best life. Planned Parenthood saved me from an early hysterectomy at 21 with access to [birth control] for endometriosis, fibroids, & PCOS. I was able to have kids at 30 that were planned & healthy."

[Over-the-counter-birth control] means I won't have to worry about being denied birth control by … doctors who make women go to multiple unnecessary visits before they prescribe birth control. Or pharmacists who refuse to carry certain prescribed birth controls."

This would be so beneficial for a woman to be able to walk into her local store and purchase oral contraceptives on her own time, privately, and quickly!"

Whether it's taking charge of your own sexual and reproductive health, preventing pregnancy, or anything else, we want to know: Why is access to birth control important to you?

Access to sexual and reproductive health care is needed now more than ever — and while the approval of over-the-counter birth control pills isn't a solution to the abortion access crisis, it's a critical part of protecting reproductive freedom.

Take a moment to celebrate this victory for reproductive freedom.

Thank you for everything you've done to protect our ability to make our own decisions about our bodies, lives, and futures.
