Rep. Tony Gonzales Introduces Bipartisan Hire Act to Provide Workforce Shortage Solution - Republican Representative Tony Gonzales of Texas held a press conference Tuesday introducing the bipartisan H-2 Improvements to Relieve Employers (HIRE) Act as a solution to abate unprecedented inflationary US workforce shortages and to help improve border security. The bill, which already has the support of 15 bipartisan cosponsors and over 30 business organizations, would update temporary work visas by cutting down on bureaucracy and extending their length from one to three years, helping to provide US businesses with needed workers to fill jobs that they can’t find the Americans to do. The bipartisan effort of lawmakers on the bill provides hope that Congress will take a sensible first step towards fixing the broken immigration system that has lacked solutions for decades due to uncompromising political partisanship.
McCaul, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan, Bicameral Bill to Accelerate Domestic Production of Semiconductor Chips - Since the CHIPS for America Act was authorized into law, companies have announced plans to invest billions in new domestic chip manufacturing projects throughout Texas and across the nation. However, despite their national security importance, these projects could be required to undergo a lengthy National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review. The Building Chips in America Act would ensure federal environmental reviews are completed in a timely manner by streamlining approval for projects currently under construction and others that could be delayed, and by providing the Secretary of Commerce greater tools to carry out reviews more effectively and efficiently.
Cornyn, Carper Bill to Strengthen Cross-Border Trade, Guard Against Terrorism Passes Senate - The Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) CTPAT was created as a part of the SAFE Port Act of 2006 to support secure cross-border trade through a fast-track, customs clearance process for trusted merchants who voluntarily submit themselves to enhanced security screening measures. Senator John Cornyn of Texas released the following statement after the legislation passed the Seante unanimously. "In order for America to remain competitive in global markets, we must ensure our ports are open, efficient, and secure,” said Sen. Cornyn. “This legislation would provide ways for trusted trading partners to expedite the transport of cargo important to Texas’ economy while protecting against illegal goods and national security threats, and I urge the House to send it to the President’s desk.”
Supporting Our Troops, Defending a Great Nation - Last week House Republicans passed the National Defense Authorization Act. While we can never do enough to thank our servicemen and women for protecting freedom and defending democracy, this bill takes a step in the right direction, giving our troops the biggest pay raise in more than 20 years. It also puts a stop to the left’s politicization of our military. The Department of Defense exists to demonstrate America’s military might and protect our national security — not to promulgate a political agenda.
