LULAC 2023 Unveils Agenda for 2023 National Convention & Exposition Agenda

This year’s theme, “Saber es Poder,” focuses on unifying the strength of the
country’s Latino population through knowledge, community, and social justice to
build economic freedom.

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – (July 20, 2023) - The League of United Latin America
Citizens (LULAC) [ [link removed] ] , the nation’s longest-standing and
largest civic rights organization, announced today the agenda [ [link removed] ]
for its 94th Annual National Convention and Exposition set to take place in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 2 - August 5, 2023 at the Albuquerque Convention
Center. This year’s theme, “Saber es Poder,” will focus on the power of knowledge
and the importance of community, and unity to pursue and attain social and
economic justice for the country’s booming U.S. Hispanic community.

The convention will officially open to the public on Wednesday, August 2 at 9:00
am headlined by LULAC leaders and featured speakers [ [link removed] ]
including New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez and Albuquerque Mayor Tim
Keller.

“New Mexico represents the future of our country as the first minority-majority
state, with nearly 100% percent Hispanic representation in the state legislature
and an increasingly younger population. This is the ideal place to host the 2023
LULAC Convention and Expo. We are honored to welcome our speakers and members as
we discuss pressing issues, set forth the Hispanic agenda for the next year, and

2023 LULAC Convention and Expo Featured Sessions

* LULAC Policy Spotlight: Solving the Deported Veteran Issue Once and for All
There are hundreds, if not thousands of Patriots who fought for our country
with the promise of US Citizenship only to be discarded and exiled to
countries around the world. This is a crucial conversation about the topic
and the solutions that call for action to put an end to deportations of
servicemembers, male and female, and to return those who have been deported –
some for decades, away from family and without access to their earned
benefits. For many, the only way home has been posthumously.

* The Power of Unity: The Transformative Impact of the Latino Vote in the U.S.
Elections
The Latino vote, with its robust growth and diverse perspectives, has emerged
as a game-changer in national elections, dramatically shaping policy,
discourse, and the future direction of the country. In the upcoming election,
the importance of the Latino vote cannot be overstated. Witness firsthand the
dynamic influence of the Latino community as a pivotal force in the U.S.
political landscape.

* Exploring a Path to Progress: The Dignity Act of 2023 Town Hall with
Congresswoman Veronica Escobar
This Town Hall hosted by Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (D-TX 16th District)
will discuss the Historic immigration reform that she co-introduced this year
known as the Dignity Act of 2023, a bipartisan bill that makes meaningful
reforms to the immigration system. With a pulse on the human experience on
the border, Congresswoman Escobar will illuminate how this transformative,
bipartisan legislation is set to reshape our nation's approach to border
security and immigration policy.

* A Conversation with Attorney General Raul Torrez
In 2022, New Mexico ranked 50th in the nation for child wellbeing and a
staggering 53,000 children in the state suffer from anxiety and depression.
Attorney General of New Mexico Raúl Torrez will lead a Forum entitled
“Protecting Latino Children through the Power of Civil Rights” in which he
will discuss the challenges Latino children face when their health and safety
is not prioritized and what actions the New Mexico Office of the Attorney
General is taking to protect the state’s most vulnerable children.

* Driving Progress: The Indomitable Influence of Latinos in U.S. Economic and
Workforce Development
Economic empowerment and workforce development will be at the forefront of
this year’s conference. This session will celebrate the integral role that
Latinos have played in shaping our nation’s economy, delve into the unique
experiences of Latino economic empowerment, and explore the ongoing, crucial
role of Latinos in the ongoing evolution of America's workforce and economy.

“The convening of our LULAC members this year comes at a critical time when we
are seeing enormous setbacks around civil rights, greatly impacting our economic
freedom and personal safety in this country. It is more important than ever for
our community to be united in purpose and power. This year’s convention aims to
engage, educate, and empower our attendees on these critical issues. By giving
them the right tools to succeed, our community can be better prepared for the
challenges ahead while helping to build the talent pipeline and leadership of the
future,” added Mr. Garcia.

an extensive track of workshops designed to develop young people into impactful
community leaders through positive educational experiences, social events, and
civic activities.

Economic freedom and access to healthcare are instrumental to strengthening the

de su 94ª Convención y Exposición Nacional Anual que se llevará a cabo en
Albuquerque, Nuevo México, del 2 al 5 de agosto de 2023 en el Albuquerque

* LULAC Enfoque Político: Resolviendo el Problema de los Veteranos Deportados
de una vez por Todas
Hay cientos o posiblemente miles de patriotas que lucharon por nuestro país
con la promesa de la ciudadanía estadounidense sólo para ser descartados y
exiliados a otros países. Esta conversación crucial abarca la situación y las
acciones que se deben implementar para ponerle un fin a las deportaciones de
los hombres y mujeres que son miembros de las fuerzas armadas y a su vez
permitir a quienes han sido deportados, en algunos casos durante décadas,
regresar a casa. Muchos de ellos han estado lejos de su familia sin acceso a
los beneficios que deben haber sido otorgados como veteranos y la única forma
de volver a casa ha sido póstumamente.

* El Poder de la Unidad: El impacto transformador del voto latino en las
elecciones estadounidenses
El voto latino, con su crecimiento robusto y sus perspectivas diversas, ha
surgido como un factor de cambio en las elecciones nacionales, dramáticamente
afectando la formación política, el discurso y la futura dirección del país.

* Explorando un camino hacia el progreso: La Ley de Dignidad de 2023 en el Foro

Este Foro encabezado por la congresista Verónica Escobar (D-TX Distrito 16)
discutirá la reforma migratoria histórica que ella co-introdujo este año
conocida como la Ley de Dignidad de 2023, un proyecto de ley bipartidista que
hace reformas significativas al sistema de inmigración. Centrándose en la
experiencia humana en la frontera, la congresista Escobar explicará cómo esta
legislación bipartidista y transformadora está destinada a reformar el
enfoque nacional de la seguridad fronteriza y la política de inmigración.

* Una conversación con el Fiscal General Raúl Torrez
En 2022, Nuevo México se situó en el puesto 50 de la nación en bienestar
infantil y registró que más de 53.000 niños del estado sufren ansiedad y
depresión, una cifra alarmante. En el Foro titulado "Protegiendo a los Niños

que está tomando la Oficina del Fiscal General de Nuevo México para proteger
a los niños más vulnerables del estado.

* Impulsando el progreso: La indomable influencia de los latinos en el
desarrollo económico y de la fuerza laboral de EE.UU.
La capacitación económica y el desarrollo de la fuerza laboral ocuparán un
lugar destacado en la conferencia de este año. En esta sesión se celebrará el

crítico en el cual se están llevando a cabo enormes retrocesos en torno al tema
de los derechos civiles, afectando enormemente nuestra libertad económica y
seguridad personal en este país. Es más importante que nunca que nuestra
comunidad esté unida en propósito y poder. La convención de este año se propone a
involucrar de manera efectiva, educar y empoderar a nuestros asistentes en estos
temas críticos. Al darles las herramientas adecuadas para tener éxito, nuestra
comunidad puede estar mejor preparada para los retos que se presentan y, al mismo
tiempo, ayudar a construir la fuente de talento y liderazgo del futuro", añadió
el Sr. García.

Asimismo, LULAC organizará su Convención Juvenil anual [ [link removed] ] ,
una serie completa de talleres diseñados para convertir a los jóvenes en líderes
de su comunidad a través de experiencias positivas y educativas, actos sociales y
actividades cívicas.

La libertad económica y el acceso a la atención de salud son fundamentales para
fortalecer el futuro de la población latina del país. La Feria de Empleo y la
Exposición de Salud de la convención destacarán productos y servicios adaptados a
la comunidad hispana y ofrecerán oportunidades de empleo y recursos sanitarios a
los asistentes. La Feria de Empleo y Salud y la Exposición estará abierta al
