Dear John,

Over the past week, we’ve received some incredible photos for our 2023 Environmental Photo Contest! Check out a few of the entries below:

Jennifer L Rehmel captured a man teaching his two sons the traditional method of fishing while watching the beautiful sunset at Giles French Park. “I was reminded that the First Nations called this place home long before my European ancestors set foot in this country. The Columbia Gorge is full of reminders of the culture of the First Nations. The fishing platforms that sat on the banks of the river reminded me how their lives are tied to the annual return of the salmon,” Jennifer wrote.

And this photo submitted by Mike Rhine, who recently became an uncle to his niece Aurora pictured here, was taken at Cannon Beach. Mike wrote, “None of my siblings have had kids, so I've never been an uncle until now! Being able to be involved in her life as she experiences the wonders of life and Oregon means the absolute world to me.”

I hope these photos will inspire you to submit your own! You can send in photos of yourself with loved ones and pets enjoying the outdoors, of nature and wildlife, climate change, or climate impacts.

You have until August 31st to email your photo(s) to [email protected]. In the forwarded email below, you’ll find more details about the photo contest. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

Thank you,

Dear John,

Summer’s here, which means it’s time for our Photo Contest! We’re beginning to prepare our Scorecard, and a major part of our Scorecard is the beautiful photos of our state that you share with us. We’ve had categories and themes in previous contests, but this year, we have an open theme. Because we want to know how you like to enjoy the Oregon we’re all working together to protect.

Whether you’re traveling to the coast with loved ones, hiking with your pets, or observing clouds, birds and other local happenings from your front porch–send us your photos! Every year, we love seeing photos of people outdoors enjoying nature and wildlife (with or without furry friends), though in recent years, we’ve also seen some incredible pictures of nature nearby, climate impacts, and the resiliency of our communities. So this year, please send us the photos that most resonate with you!

You have until August 31st to submit your photos of Oregon’s outdoors. Send us an email at [email protected] with ‘Photo Contest’ in the subject line and your photos attached. You may send up to three. Be sure to include your name, the location where the photo was taken, and a short description of why it’s meaningful to you.

Select photos will be featured in our 2023 Environmental Scorecard, and one grand-prize winner will be on the cover! All winners will receive a surprise gift. We’ll also post the photos on our Facebook page after our Scorecard is released in the fall, so find and tag yours.

I can't wait to see them!

Best,
Jane Kwon
