John, with our rural healthcare newsletters, we have attempted to descirbe the plight rural Americans face with the healthcare crisis in our nation. One specific area that is suffering is maternal healthcare. From obstetrics to post-partum care, rural America is experiencing an emergency in lack of care.
According to a study published in 2017 and a review by CommonWealthFund.org, "As of 2014, more than half of rural counties in the U.S. were considered maternity care deserts, with no hospital-based obstetric services; worsening access has contributed to increases in maternal mortality and morbidities among rural residents, particularly Black women." |
