When Jerry Reed returned home one Thursday night after teaching a hunter education course, he didn?t expect to have one of his most memorable experiences involving one of his students. Hunter education is only one of Reed?s volunteer positions, and on this evening two of his passions collided. Reed also volunteered for the Sheridan County Search and Rescue Unit. *When Search and Rescue called him about a local boy who got lost while attempting to mountain bike on the Tongue River Canyon Trail, he was ready for action. Apply to hunt on a Game and Fish hunter management area

If you?re one of the many hunters making plans to head to a Wyoming Game and Fish Department Hunter Management Area (HMA) this fall, it's time to apply for permission slips.?Applications for HMAs open 8 a.m. July 13. Tickets on sale for Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame

Tickets are on sale for the 2023 Wyoming Outdoor Hall of Fame. The event will honor inductees Ron Dube, Thomas Ryder, Wayne Hubert and posthumous inductee Albert Nelson. The induction ceremony is Tuesday, Nov. 14 in Cody at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.?*The Hall of Fame honors individuals, both living and posthumously, who have made significant, lasting and lifetime contributions to the conservation of Wyoming?s outdoor heritage. First-time hunters should not let barbeques, vacations and other activities sidetrack them into forgetting about signing up for hunter education.?For busy folks a hybrid?course option?is available.?*Hunter education classes are offered statewide. 2022 CWD testing results

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department?s Wildlife Health Laboratory tested 6,701 samples from big game animals for chronic wasting disease (CWD) in 2022. Testing was completed earlier this year?on?samples?that?were?submitted from?across?the state.?CWD was not detected in 5,875 samples and 826 samples were positive.
