The presidential race is in full swing, but right now, it's still too soon to tell who will win the nomination. One thing that is certain: 2020 will not be the year we elect the next Black president.
Although it's disappointing, we still have the chance to do what the Republican-controlled Senate couldn't, and kick a corrupt president out of office once and for all. It's not going to be an easy fight -- there are right-wing organizations that are funneling millions of dollars into this race and will do everything they can to keep the status quo.
We'll have to work harder than ever before to not only elect the next Democratic president but Black leaders up and down the ballot as well. The sanctity of our democracy depends on it. Which brings me to why I'm emailing you, friend:
It's President's Day, and we're determined to make sure this time next year we'll have a new president in office. Even though there are no longer any Black people still in this race, do you think The Collective should endorse one of the candidates? Let us know >> [link removed]
The only way we're going to win in November is if we stay united. Right-wing special interest groups are already trying to divide us over petty differences -- spending thousands on misleading advertising on social media, flooding our airwaves with outright lies, and going as far as entering our communities to stir up trouble.
We need to stay united against all of these attacks. And that might cause some things to change.
Look, we've never endorsed a white candidate before. That's not our mission. But we are driven to strengthen our democracy through civic engagement, no matter what. So, I need to know what you think: should we endorse a candidate for president?
