Gerrymandering. Voter suppression. Even election sabotage. Free and fair elections are in danger, Friend.
In fact, more than 150 restrictive voting bills have been pre-filed or introduced in at least 32 states since the start of 2023.
We need to act now. Senator Amy Klobuchar and Congressman John Sarbanes have just re-introduced the Freedom to Vote Act. The bill creates national standards to protect our freedom to vote. It would set high standards for access to the ballot in every state, combat big money in politics, ban partisan manipulation of Congressional districts, and promote security and integrity in our election systems.
This is how we make sure that every. single. vote. counts. We’re calling on every LCV member to email their member of Congress today.
We need transformative reforms that ensure the freedom to vote and stop blatant gerrymandering. Take action today: urge your representatives to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.
Without a bill like this, we risk continuing biased redistricting, intentional voter suppression, and more undisclosed polluter money in politics. Here’s why this is SO important right now:
- Protect voting rights: All Americans have the right to make sure that their votes are counted and their voices are heard. That means dismantling intentional barriers targeted toward young people, new Americans, and BIPOC individuals from voting, from long lines and eliminated polling places, to targeted restrictions to registration and overt voter intimidation.
- Fight corporate money in politics: We must build a campaign finance system that ensures our elected leaders listen to every American — not just the rich and powerful.
- Prevent election sabotage: We need national standards for voters to safely and freely cast ballots, ensure that trusted local election officials count every vote, and prevent partisan politicians from sabotaging our elections.
- Stop anti-voter policies at the state and local level: With states across the country working to pass bills that attack our freedom to vote, we need national standards to ensure that everyone has equal access to the ballot.
