When hospitals put patients over profits, Summer Lee takes notice
John,
Summer Lee’s community was devastated by the closure of the only hospital in their area. This hospital, which was funded by tax dollars, was a critical source of care for so many who needed (and still need) medical attention.
Last week, More Perfect Union released a video that tells the story of UPMC: how a tax-funded, “nonprofit”, charitable institution ballooned into a profit-obsessed hospital.
Do you agree that hospitals should put patients over profits? If so, chip-in $5 to Summer’s effort to take on this profit-focused hospital chain.
When it was founded, the hospital was focused on providing affordable medical care for anyone who needed it. Now, it sends patients home with substantial medical debt while providing services at expense of their already overworked staff.
It’s time for someone to hold the UPMC accountable. Summer is in this fight. For Summer, her community’s experience with the UPMC has fueled her drive to hold the institution accountable and she won’t stop until quality care is the focus of providers in PA.
When hospitals put patients over profits, Summer Lee takes notice. Will you contribute $5 to Summer’s fight to hold the big “nonprofit”, UPMC, accountable?
