John, you may not know this but I come from a military family.
Here’s a photo of my grandfather, at the time of his service.
My grandfather, father, brother, and nephew have all served in the Navy. I know the importance of service to our country, and the profound challenges that service members and their families face.
That's also why I was so disappointed to see the passage of this year's national defense bill – the NDAA – devolve into a heated political fight.
Typically when the defense bill comes up, Congress passes it with strong bipartisan support. That’s how it should be; both parties coming together to keep the country safe.
But this year, Kevin McCarthy and his allies in the ‘Conspiracy Caucus’ pulled the NDAA into their culture war -- putting their social agenda ahead of our national security. Frankly, it's appalling.
This is exactly what happens when a major political party is hijacked by the furthest extremes in their ranks. We have politicians leading the way who care more about scoring culture war points than investing in keeping our country safe.
This needs to end, and step one is taking back the House in 2024.
CA-47 will be one of the most important districts for Democrats to hold in order to retake the House majority. If you can, please chip in $3 or more to support my campaign.
In unity,
Joanna
