Friend, with your support, our teams continue to work around the clock to save lives and provide hope to people in Ukraine. Chris Skopec, Executive Vice President of Project HOPE, was recently on the ground there where he spoke to team and community members about the flooding that occurred after explosions destroyed the Kakhovka Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant on June 6.

Along with the massive humanitarian challenges they were already facing, 80 communities were engulfed by floodwaters, killing livestock, damaging farms and businesses, and displacing families and villages. Clean water access was limited for at east 200,000 people in the Dnipro region.

In response to the flooding, Project HOPE teams have:

✓  Delivered seven truckloads of emergency drinking water for affected communities.

✓  Distributed more than 500 hygiene kits with essential supplies to evacuating families.

✓  Provided free psychosocial support to help people cope with the disaster and displacement.

Chris also visited Kherson, a city that was under Russian occupation for over nine months. Project HOPE has been in Ukraine since March of 2022, shortly after the full-scale invasion, and to date, we've helped over 300 health facilities and centers that have been hosting people displaced from their homes.

Since February 24, 2022, there have been 1,006 attacks on health care facilities, as well as 9,083 civilian deaths and 15,779 civilian injuries. However, the true number of casualties — like the true scale of humanitarian need — is likely higher than current records or reporting can indicate.
