A Lifesaving Vaccination Campaign in Angola

Angola was one of ten countries with the highest number of unvaccinated children in 2022. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, 30 percent of children in Angola were identified as zero-dose — leaving them vulnerable to a range of preventable and potentially deadly diseases. With support from UNICEF, a nationwide vaccination campaign is helping to turn the tide. The initiative is boosting immunization rates after years of struggle by improving cold chain infrastructure to better transport vaccines, providing training for health workers and building outreach and access to vaccinations.

New Report: The Water Burden on Girls Around the World

In seven out of ten households worldwide, the responsibility for fetching water falls on women and girls. A new report by UNICEF and WHO digs deeper into the gender inequalities that impact global access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). The findings call for greater efforts to address gender disparities and accelerate action. On an encouraging note, the report also shows that, while serious issues persist, we are making progress towards achieving universal access to safe and sufficient water, sanitation and hygiene as access has risen over the past seven years.

Youth-Led Climate Action in the Maldives

Off the coast of the Maldives, a group of teenage girls and boys called the Muhyiddin Scouts are dedicated to protecting the vibrant corals and the delicate ecosystem of their country. Their efforts include diving into the sea to make observations, nurturing diseased corals back to health and raising awareness for action. Children like the Scouts are leading the climate movement and UNICEF works with partners around the world to support and empower them in their efforts to protect our planet.
