Friend,
It’s time for the MAGA Super Majority in the Tennessee Legislature to listen to the will of the voters. Early voting has started for the August 3rd Special Election. Help “the Justins” send a message: When you subvert our democracy we will outvote you.
As you’ll recall, the MAGA-supermajority bullied, and then expelled two Black Legislators, Representatives Justin J. Pearson (#86) and Justin Jones (#52), AKA “the Justins”, for dutifully representing their constituents in the aftermath of a devastating Nashville school shooting—exactly what Tennesseans had urged them to do.
Since the Justins were expelled last April, they were only temporarily appointed back to their seats. Both Justins face opponents in the Special General Election August 3rd. The unnecessary expense of all these extra elections falls directly to the taxpayers. They are designed to distract the Justins from their duties in the House.
Does that sound conservative, or devious to you?
As part of the Abe Team, you know that any August Special Election needs a robust GOTV effort. But when basic democratic and constitutional principles of law and fairness are in play, and when legislative bullies throw a hissy-fit and require the taxpayers to pay for the damage, we need to turbo-charge our robust GOTV effort. We cannot allow MAGA-supermajorities to bully elected officials who are simply representing the interests of their constituents.
Every vote, cast or not cast, could be THE vote that makes the difference between actual representatives of the people and ventriloquist dummies put in place to mimic the MAGA-supermajority. Early voting is in progress.
This week’s Tennessee Abe-Team priority actions to Get Out The Vote are below.
Back in April, President Joe Biden said, “Today’s expulsion of lawmakers who engaged in peaceful protest is shocking, undemocratic and without precedent.” Let’s help Tennesseans show the country that they will not be bullied and restore The Justins to their rightful office.
Also, there is also another August 3rd Special General Election (House #3) to replace a resigning Tennessee Legislator.
Together,
The Union
