People power works!

Hello friend,
I’m so happy to be emailing to let you know that we’ve scored an outstanding victory for our End Energy Debt campaign.
Recently, we emailed you about a consultation the energy regulator Ofgem was holding on what to do about the £2.3 billion of energy debt and arrears that have built up during the cost of living crisis.
The proposal on the table was to cover the cost of debts that are unlikely to ever be paid off through energy companies charging us more on our bills!
This is obviously outrageous, it should be the companies that have profited in this crisis who should bear the burden, not ordinary people.
Now let's build our campaign ([link removed])
Almost 2000 of us wrote to Ofgem pointing out how unfair this would be, and to call for more action to help people write off debts that can’t be paid.
And we won! Ofgem agreed that our bills shouldn’t go up just to cover the debts that have built up over this period. This is welcome news, and wouldn’t have happened without thousands of Debt Justice supporters like you taking action.
Now, can you help get even more people involved in our campaign by signing our petition?
Let's get the debt written off ([link removed])
This victory helps drive home the point that the government needs to do more to help people with energy debts that have built up. The system is still broken, there’s record energy debt and millions face the threat of disconnection.
We need bills to come down for good and support for people to get their debts written off. You can help by signing our petition calling for a full debt write off.
But for now, well done and thank you! This victory shows that people power works.
In solidarity,
Joe, Eva, Zak and the whole team at Debt Justice
