Hi there,

This week, the Senate got back to work, and there’s a lot to report. I jumped right in, introducing a new bipartisan bill with my colleague Senator Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) to help our veterans navigate the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). War Powers Resolution

On Thursday, I voted to oppose the War Powers Resolution. I was disappointed the resolution ended up passing. No one—including President Trump—wants a war with Iran. Congress must authorize any deployment of forces to Iran, and I do not support such a push towards war. Iran will only be deterred from future attacks if they know that the president has the full authority to respond if they or their proxies kill Americans. If this resolution were to become law, that authority would be called into question.

ESPN+ Streaming

On Tuesday, Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby appeared before a Senate Commerce Subcommittee. Since he was there in front of me, I took the opportunity to voice my frustration and ask him—on the record—about the Big 12’s decision to stream West Virginia University games on ESPN+ rather than air on television.

Given our state’s connectivity challenges, streaming these games can be difficult at times—especially for older fans. West Virginia has no professional teams, but teams like WVU are our pro teams. We want to see that WVU victory on our TV’s. Watch my exchange here or click on the image below:

Enforcing the Rule of Law

This week, I joined my colleague, Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, in introducing the Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act, which would block certain federal funds to sanctuary states, including states that defy federal immigration enforcement or that allow illegal aliens to obtain driver licenses without proof of lawful presence.

West Virginians believe that our immigration laws should be enforced, and state governments that circumvent—or blatantly obstruct—federal immigration laws should face consequences.

I’m also a co-sponsor of the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act and the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act. Click here to learn more about all of these bills and my full statement on the Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act.
