John,
Once again, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) has capitulated to the extremist faction of his party—and littered the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with attacks on transgender troops, numerous diversity and inclusion measures, and climate change mitigation efforts. This is the first time in nearly 60 years that the NDAA has passed without robust bipartisan support.1
The Senate now takes up their own $886 billion package, and we have a chance to send them a clear message to reject extremist proposals and to reject wasteful price gouging.
Click here to tell the Senate to reject attacks on climate and diversity in the NDAA and to reject price gouging.

One provision from Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) would prevent the Pentagon from using funds to implement seven of President Biden’s climate change initiatives and improve environmental justice.2
The House also proposes to eliminate all armed forces diversity, equity and inclusion offices and related personnel, bar federal funding from being used to teach critical race theory, and bar funding for drag shows or similar events.
And, the NDAA continues to hand over money to price-gouging military contractors like Lockheed Martin and Boeing—money that is then not being invested in vulnerable communities for housing, nutrition, education, health care, and more. Some of these contractors are raking in as much as 40% in total profits thanks to the exorbitant prices they charge the Department of Defense.3
A vote on the NDAA is expected in the Senate before the end of this month. Now is the time to join the Coalition on Human Needs and our partners to demand the Senate reject the attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the military, and to remove attacks on climate change mitigation.
Send a direct message to the Senate urging them to vote down the Republican attacks on climate and diversity.
Thank you for all you do to put families and communities first,
Deborah Weinstein
