Dear John,
David knew that his life was soon coming to an end, so he chose his words carefully when he spoke to his son, Solomon, who would succeed him as king.
Three thousand years later, David’s words are still relevant for us, and I thought about them recently as I pondered the legislative session that began last week.
I encourage you to read the biblical record of these famous last words. You can find them in 1 Kings 2:2-4 and 1 Chronicles 22:12-13.
David’s admonition to Solomon covers three main points. First, be strong and courageous, not afraid or discouraged. This is good advice for us too, since the deck sometimes seems stacked against us.
Second, Solomon must adhere to the law. This is also relevant to us. We uphold God’s law, but also natural law and the law of our nation as expressed in our Constitution. There are imminent threats to all three!
Finally, David reminds Solomon that if he does these two things God would prosper him. We work hard to represent biblical values because we believe those values bring about the flourishing of all people. Those values are constantly under threat … never more so than when misguided legislators try to pass laws that trample religious freedom and privacy rights for our children.
Will you stand with us in prayer and financial support? Your contribution at this intense time of year is so important – and so appreciated! Will you prayerfully consider making a special gift of $25.00, $50.00, $100.00 or even more as God leads, to support our pro-life, pro-family and pro-religious freedom policy efforts during the 2020 legislative session?
