[1]Justice Democrats
John,
We’ve been emailing about how bad our financial situation is a lot. And it
has meant the world how much you all have stepped up to support us during
this difficult time.
But I need to address the elephant in the room. We keep sending these
emails because the situation is dire. Last week, we had to lay off nine of
our twenty members of staff.
Justice Democrats is at a crossroads as an organization. What we raise in
the coming weeks and months will set the trajectory of how we show up and
what we can accomplish this cycle.
I want to be clear as Executive Director that I made the most responsible
decision that honors our work, the staff, and stakeholders like you. Our
work and the mission this organization set out with is so much bigger than
any one person, and our decision-making is rooted in what is best for our
strategy and mission.
I, and our entire team, don’t want to exist as an organization just to
exist.
There are plenty of progressive groups doing great work. But we want to
keep going because we believe our work is uniquely important in the
progressive ecosystem with our laser focus on primaries and holding
federal democratic leadership accountable when they don’t deliver.
Our work since 2018 has and is actively transforming the political
landscape to make the progressive vision we all fight for possible.
And we haven’t changed to fit the political landscape, the landscape has
changed to make room for us. And with very little money over these last
five years, we couldn’t be more proud of this fact.
We talk a lot about AOC — as we should because her impact in transforming
Congress and successfully pressuring our federal government to better
fight for poor and working people has been pivotal since she has entered
office — but there is so much that has happened since.
Our work is only possible because of our grassroots supporters. I truly
mean that.
Thank you so much for being a part of our movement to challenge the entire
political establishment and elect more progressive change-makers.

Over these next few weeks — we want our story and impact to be clear: we
have punched above our weight and none of it would have been possible
without our staff and the thousands of everyday people who dared to
believe and fight back with us even though the odds have always been
stacked against us.
There is so much to be proud of despite this sad moment, and it is the
honor of my life to be a part of this work with my staff and all of you.
Thank you all again. In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas
Executive Director
