In a recent op-ed about preventing gun violence in Virginia, Danica shared a powerful conversation she had with a concerned teacher in Haymarket. This teacher’s number one concern wasn’t teacher pay, or completely funding our Standards of Quality, or any of the other issues facing teachers. Her concern was gun control and the threat hanging over her students of a horrible gun violence incident at school.

This teacher – like so many devoted educators across our district – is focused on the well-being of her students, not on fighting divisive culture wars. Danica understands that we need to prioritize the safety of students, teachers, administrators, and staff in the face of rising gun violence. It doesn't have to be like this. |
Danica is committed to passing effective and popular gun safety legislation, such as "Red Flag" laws that remove firearms from individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others. These measures are proven to prevent tragic incidents and provide an essential layer of protection for our community. Banning assault weapons, expanding background checks, and closing gun show loopholes are also critical to addressing gun violence. Danica is proud to be endorsed by organizations who are fighting to make schools a safer place, such as Everytown for Gun Safety, Giffords, and Moms Demand Action.
