Friend –
We just spent the last 4 days in the Hamptons to fight for our future and demand a tax on the ultra-wealthy who are destroying the planet.
Over the weekend, we:
Blockaded the East Hampton airport with climate activists including Abigail Disney (from the Disney family) to disrupt wasteful private jets that are 14 times more polluting, per passenger, than commercial planes.
Marched with pitchforks and inflatable orcas on the wealthy elite’s yacht club with Shinnecock Nation members whose land continues to be stolen and destroyed by morally-bankrupt billionaires.
Took over the wealthiest golf course in the Hamptons with a MILLION dollar membership fee to protest the wealthy’s hoarding of our land for their private use.
Paid Citibank’s board chair John Dugan a visit at his home to demand that they stop funding fossil fuel destruction.
The 1% ‘s reckless consumption is driving the climate crisis, and the people who are going to be most impacted – Black, brown, working-class, and poor people – are rising up to demand that they pay what they owe to fund climate solutions.
The March to End Fossil Fuels will bring thousands of people together and we’re organizing actions in the lead up to the march and during the UN’s Climate Summit, targeting some of the climate crisis’ biggest culprits, including Citibank and private equity firms KKR and Blackstone. These fossil fuel financiers must take accountability for polluting our communities and stop financing the climate crisis.
Whether it’s against billionaires or Wall Street giants, our collective action is going to win a safe, healthy, and livable future for all of us – not just the wealthy few.
Until we win,
Alice Hu, NYCC
