Last week, the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with countless provisions included in the bill that will ensure substantial benefits for Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, and the thriving defense-focused workforce within Texas' Thirteenth Congressional District. This year's NDAA ensures the Department of Defense's readiness and redirects the military's focus to its primary goal: DEFENSE!

The NDAA is one of the most important bills that comes before Congress. As a former Navy Rear Admiral, I know the vital role this legislation plays for our national security. Not only does this year's bill ensure we have the weapons systems and equipment our service members need, it makes a needed course correction to restore the military’s focus to fighting and winning wars. The days of the radical left ignoring the law and pushing their destructive social agenda in the military are done. This bill ensures that our service members can focus on their jobs and their families instead of being used for the political gain of the Biden administration. I take tremendous pride in advocating for the defense priorities of Texas’ Thirteenth Congressional District and am extremely proud of how the FY24 NDAA will benefit our district. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure these provisions are signed into law.

Key Provisions Included

During the debate last week, the House voted on and passed the historic Jackson-Roy amendment as part of this year's NDAA which will halt the Biden administration's illegal and immoral abortion policy. Taxpayer funding of travel for an abortion is in fact taxpayer-funded abortion, and this administration has been enacting policies across the government in clear violation of the law. The Biden administration has sidestepped existing statutes and given the Department permission to take this illegal course of action. This has left House Republicans with no choice but to take corrective measures and pass additional legislation. I absolutely will not waiver in my defense of the rule of law, therefore ensuring that taxpayer money is not used to kill innocent babies.

Vaccine mandates are an overreach of government power, and I am proud my amendment was adopted in the FY2024 NDAA prohibiting the punishments of cadets and midshipmen who did not receive the COVID vaccine. I refuse to stand by while the left’s radical agenda hurts the careers of cadets and midshipmen! This year's NDAA re-focuses and ensures our military is prepared and laser-focused on our national defense.
