Dear John,

Governor Youngkin and the Republican party are making some of us less equal and less deserving. When one group is denied acceptance and dignity, the rights of all of us are at risk.

This past week the Governor removed resources from the Department of Health’s website that were intended to help LGBTQ+ youth and their families access important health related information. I called out Governor Youngkin for this irresponsible action on social media.

Please help elect lawmakers who will stand up for the rights of all Virginians. Any donation you make will support Democratic candidates running in targeted Senate seats who stand for equality.

Since the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, anti-gay rhetoric and calls to roll back established LGBTQ protections have grown louder and bolder. It is heartbreaking to see such anti-gay rhetoric. Studies have shown that rates of attempted suicide among youth decrease where hate crime laws protect LGBTQ+ people.

Given the far right philosophical bent of SCOTUS, this rhetoric could precipitate the undermining of important equality protections that were once guaranteed under the right to privacy as embodied in the Fourteenth Amendment, such as same sex marriage, interracial marriage and women’s rights, overall.

Now is the time for you to stand up for the values that will bring us closer to a more perfect union. Any donation you can make to this fight for equality will be given to senate candidates who are running in seats that will expand the Democratic majority.
