Combined, they taught me the importance of reforming our criminal justice system in a way that puts our people, and not some twisted sense of "justice", at the top of the priority list.
And that's exactly what I set out to do when I introduced the SAFE-T Act, a measure that replaced our cash bail system with a pretrial release one that considered a detainee's 1️⃣ alleged crime, 2️⃣ their risk of not appearing for court, and 3️⃣ any danger they might pose to others.
