Eligible projects for Rural grants include highway, bridge, and tunnel projects that help improve freight, safety, and provide or increase access to agricultural, commercial, energy, or transportation facilities that support the economy of a rural area. Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant ProgramThe Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST) has released a joint application for the Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) and Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) programs, which will combine two major discretionary grants into one application. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative to reconnect communities that are cut off from opportunity and burdened by past transportation infrastructure decisions. The RCP Program aims to advance and support reconnection of communities divided by transportation infrastructure – with a priority on helping disadvantaged communities improve access to daily needs (jobs, schools, healthcare, grocery stores, and recreation). The primary goal of the NAE Program is to improve walkability, safety, and affordable transportation access.Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
