Dear John, Here in the Boundary Waters life is calm and serene. It’s paddling season, the lakes are perfect for swimming, and the mosquitoes are starting to ease up. Folks are busy enjoying America’s favorite Wilderness.
Meanwhile, it has been a busy summer for our legal teams at Save the Boundary Waters - last week, we updated you on our state lawsuit, and now we have an update on our federal lawsuit, in which Twin Metals seeks to force the renewal of terminated mining leases next to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Twin Metals' lawsuit attempts to revive its rejected plan to build a dangerous sulfide-ore copper mine along rivers, lakes, and streams that flow directly into the Wilderness.
But we can't let that happen, so we took action. Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness - the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters' lead organization - recently filed a motion to dismiss this federal lawsuit. But we can’t win this battle alone - we need your support.
